Harry Lynch, better known by his artistic pseudonym HazzA, was born on October 30, 2000, in Knokke, Belgium, and is currently based in Paris, France. HazzA’s work spans painting, sculpture, shortfilms, fashion and drawing, showcasing his versatility and creativity across various mediums. He is most recognized for his surrealist/absurdist paintings, which center on his alter ego placed within imaginative and dreamlike scenarios.
In 2020, Harry began exploring his subconscious by surrendering control on the canvas and trusting his instincts. This process led to the creation of HazzA, a personification and alter ego representing his inner world.
HazzA’s face often displays a wide range of intense emotions, such as anger, anxiety, fear, confusion, and focus. These expressions reflect the complex feelings experienced while navigating the uncertainties of growing up as a young adult.
Harry often refers to himself as HazzA when creating art, seeing this identity as the one most in control during the act of making. Through surreal and playful scenes, the line between reality and imagination becomes blurred. HazzA is used as a lens to explore themes such as heartbreak, neglect, the challenges of youth, and the impact of societal pressures. Recurring symbols and visual elements appear throughout the work, forming a personal language that addresses individual struggle alongside broader social issues, such as imposed propaganda and daily frustrations.
Each painting is a new creation with its own identity. No two works are alike, as each reflects a distinct emotional or psychological moment.
A defining feature of HazzA’s art is the use of bold, vibrant colors that bring life to dynamic, dreamlike settings. This vivid palette enhances the surreal atmosphere, drawing viewers into whimsical, sometimes unsettling worlds. In these spaces, everyday experiences are transformed into fantastical journeys that invite personal reflection and emotional connection.
